Shark spotters have been on duty daily at Long Beach since October 2006. No sharks have been seen here by the spotters.
- No suitable elevated spotting site (view from the mountain not good)
- Water visibilty usually poor
- Spotters would only be able to see a shark if it was swimming at the water surface (fins seldom break the surface)
- Difficult to check on spotters regularly since location far from Shark Spotters office
Importance of beach
- Popular surfing beach
- Many young surfers
Shark Spotters has placed a first aid kit at the 24-hour garage in Kommetjie.
