On Friday 17th October, Eric Myeko was robbed by unknown assailants as he scanned for sharks at the Spotters Hut on Boyes Drive above Muizenberg beach. The robbers took his binoculars, a kenwood radio (used to communicate with other Spotters on the beach), a marine radio (used to communicate with Sea Rescue and other emergency services), his polaroid sunglasses, and a small amount of cash. The case has been reported to the police but as of yet the perpetrators have not been found. This is a big setback for the project as all the equipment must now be replaced at a cost to the programme.
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to David from Simonstown Boat Company for so quickly coming to our rescue by replacing one of the radios. It is a big help and all the spotters really appreciate it. THANK YOU!
